Social Media Marketing

Social Media is the #1 activity on the internet today. This means more people are on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube than on blogs, news sites, and even e-mail. Americans spend 37 minutes a day on Social Media sites and this number will only grow as Social Media sites become much more easily accessible through mobile device advancements.

Why does your business need to be using Social Media?

Three good reasons include:

  • Increasing your customer base
  • Increasing your search engine ranking
  • Increasing your bottom line

Once business decision makers truly understand the importance of Social Media in a modern marketing strategy, engagement is the only logical course of action. By engaging your customers and prospects, you will make sales and generate new leads. But if you engage correctly, you will also enhance the search engine optimization (SEO) for your business so that you show up in important search results more often. Social Media is a great way to build your brand, introduce new products and promotions, provide customer support and communicate with your employees. Engaging in Social Media correctly can make a big difference in your business.

Sophos Sandstorm in UTM 9.4

Das ultimative Sicherheitspaket

Bewährter Schutz für Ihr Netzwerk – einfacher, schneller, besser.

Sophos UTM Elevated 9.4 Neuerungen

1. Sophos Sandstorm

Was genau macht Sophos Sandstorm?

3. WAF Persistent Session Cookies

Verbessert die Zusammenarbeit mit Webapplikationen und Webserverfarmen.

4. IPv6 SSL VPN Support

Ergänzt die häufig gewünschte Unterstützung für IPv6 VPN.

Skype’s year of inspiration, celebration, translation and innovation

As 2016 comes to a close, we’re looking back at the moments that have marked our year here at Skype. With a mission of doing things together whenever you’re apart, we’ve developed more text, voice and video features to make it even easier for all of you to share experiences with the people that matter most.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of 2016:

Skype Bots: We released some intelligent little helpers to increase productivity and make planning tasks easier than ever. From finding gig tickets with StubHub, to planning flights to your perfect vacation with Hipmunk and Skyscanner, or simplifying shipping with UPS—you can achieve so much more, right from a chat window. We’re looking forward to taking the next steps in artificial intelligence and conversational computing in the upcoming year.

Hipmunk Skype botSkype Translator: Since 2014, Skype Translator has been breaking down language barriers, making it easier for you to connect with people around the world. This year we added Arabic and Russian to our seven existing spoken languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, and Portuguese). These languages have joined over 50 IM languages in text-to-text translation—bringing the world closer together.

This week we’ve started to roll out the next milestone for Skype Translator: voice translation for calls to mobiles and landlines for users on Skype Preview for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. This means you can use Skype to call people on their phones* and communicate across languages—even if they don’t have Skype. So now you can save time before you travel by calling a restaurant to book a table, or a hotel to make a reservation, without worrying about the language barrier. (*Requires Skype Credit or a subscription to use. To learn more, please visit

As we mark the two-year anniversary of Skype Translator, we’ve seen people from all over the world using it to connect to friends, family and enable them in business. One of the stories we came across was that of New York fashion designer Bing Cai, founder of ‘Alouit New York’—a company that creates comfortable stilettos (yes you read correctly!) and uses Skype Translator to communicate with their factory in Italy.

See how Skype Translator helps inspire and encourage people to think beyond all limitations:

Skype Preview for Windows 10: We’ve been working closely with the Windows team to build a new Skype—redesigning the app to work seamlessly with Windows 10 and taking advantage of the Universal Windows Platform. This summer, we rolled out a faster and easier way for Windows 10 customers to use Skype which comes installed on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Skype Preview for Windows 10Group video calling on mobile: Group video calling continued its evolution when we introduced the feature on mobile phones and tablets—enabling you to video call up to 25 people on the go, so nobody gets left out.

New personal expression content: We had fun teaming up with Marvel Studios, Coldplay, Monty Python, Angry Birds, Tangerine Band, The Late Late Show and Sir Paul McCartney to create original Mojis and emoticons to add to our collection.

Check out our new holiday themed emoticons and Mojis that will help spread the festive cheer. You can also record a personalized Skype holiday card video to share over Skype, or on social networks including Facebook and email!

Skype filters#SkypeTogether: 2016 saw our partnerships with advocates and influencers come together to form #SkypeTogether—unique ways to access our social community, directly within Skype itself. We kicked it off with #SkypeFit, where we connected a community of health conscious people with influencers via YouTube videos, challenges and Skype group chats. #SkypeTogether also saw our first ever influencer-focused gaming collaboration: #GamingWithSkype. Over the summer, we partnered with ESL and 343 Studios (the makers of Halo) to engage gamers within Skype and via Twitch. At present, we’re excited, to be working with One Nation of Gamers (ONOG) on an exclusive Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft tournament.

Your stories: 2016 has seen lots of inspiring stories showcasing new and original ways that people use Skype. Here are a few highlights:

  • Dr. David Nott used Skype from the UK to oversee surgery in war-torn Aleppo, Syria.
  • Jenn Nicken, founder of The Chef & The Dish, offers cooking classes over Skype with chefs around the world.
  • The 2016 Skype-a-Thon which featured classrooms from 75 countries, travelling almost 10 million virtual miles over Skype, in 48 hours.

Browse the blog for more inspirational ways that Skype is used—and if you have a Skype experience you’d like to share, just tag us @Skype on social media.

From Antarctica to the North Pole, and out of this world to the International Space Station—this year has been full of exiting Skype stories. And we can’t wait to see where you’ll take Skype next!

From our Skype family to yours, we wish you happy holidays and a wonderful New Year!

Windows Insiders: Try Skype Translator on calls to mobiles and landlines

Since its introduction in 2014, Skype Translator has made it easier for you to connect with people around the world on Skype no matter where they are. We love bringing people together, and so today, we’re excited to announce the next milestone for Skype Translator: voice translation for calls to mobiles and landlines* on Skype Preview. You can now use Skype to call people on their phones and communicate across languages, even if they do not have Skype.

Starting today, we’re rolling out this new feature to members of the Windows Insider Program.** If you are a member of the program, ensure that you have the latest version of Skype Preview installed on your PC and that you have Skype Credit or a subscription. Select the dial pad, enter a phone number to see a Skype Translator option next to the call button. Tap it to bring up settings for Skype Translator. From here set the languages and place the call. Once the person on the other side picks up they will hear a short message stating that the call is being recorded and translated through Skype Translator and then you can start talking!

Skype Translator on Skype Preview

Additionally, you can start a call if someone is a Skype contact with a mobile or landline stored in the profile.* Select the contact, tap on the Skype Translator icon to bring up translate options. Save your options then tap the call button and select the phone number you want to call.

Skype Translator currently supports nine spoken languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Arabic, and Russian. Also, a good reminder that wearing a headset will significantly improve the Skype Translator calling experience. The more Skype Translator is used, the higher the quality of translations. We’re excited about this next milestone as it expands to getting more people using Skype Translator.

This new version of Skype Preview includes additional features such as:

  • Introduce friends and family on Skype by sharing their Skype contact details
  • Capture and share video messages with friends and family on Skype—even if they’re not online
  • Manage your conversations and save time by marking conversations as read or unread
  • Don’t miss another call by forwarding them to a mobile or landline*

We would love to hear what you think. Take a moment to visit the Windows Feedback app, search for Skype and upvote a trending topic or create a new entry.

Thanks for continuing to take this journey with us, we can’t wait to bring you even more!

*Requires Skype Credit or a subscription to use. To learn more, please visit

How to set up a VPN in Windows 10

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network and allows users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if devices were directly connected to the private network. VPNs are great for when you want to block your network traffic from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) in cases where you don’t want them to know where you’re browsing (or downloading, uploading, etc.), or need to be confidential when handling work or personal data.

Whether it’s for work or personal use, however, it’s relatively easy to connect to a VPN on your Windows 10 PC (or Windows 10 Mobile device). First, you have to pick and create a VPN profile for Windows 10.

Picking a VPN

In order to set up a VPN in Windows 10, it is often easier if you can find a VPN in the Windows Store. Oftentimes, you’ll need to search online for the best VPN you can find to protect yourself. Preferably finding a free VPN is great, but if you want to ensure you are properly secured, it’s often best to find a paid version. There are two highly-rated VPN apps in the Windows Store: Hotspot Shield Free VPN, and VPN Unlimited.

If there is no app available in the Windows Store that you are satisfied with, you can always browse the internet for the best one you can find. Some browsers, like Opera, offer built-in VPN protection as well. However, setting up your own VPN can ensure that all your Windows 10 devices in your house connected to the internet are protected via your VPN. Once you’ve picked a VPN, you’ll need to go into the Settings of your Windows 10 PC and make some quick changes.

Create a VPN Connection

Create a VPN Connection by following these 5 steps:

  1. Select the Start button
  2. Select Settings (gear)
  3. Select Network & Internet
  4. Select VPN
  5. Select Add a VPN Connection

Once you are in Add a VPN connection section, you’ll need to add your VPN provider information.

Add a VPN connection

Now it’s time to configure the settings for your VPN. For VPN provider, choose Windows (built-in); the only option. In the Connection name box, type a friendly name for your VPN connection profile. This is the VPN connection name to look for when you go want to connect. In the Server name or address box, type the address for the VPN server. For VPN type, choose the type of VPN connection you want to create.

You can use PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) because it is easy to set up and has a fast connection. However, PPTP is not very reliable and less secure than other VPN server protocols. Choose Automatic and Windows 10 will select the best option for you.

Add a VPN Connection

At this point, you’ll need to know the VPN settings that your VPN provider uses in order to log in and use the VPN service that you registered. For “Type of sign-in info,” indicate the type of sign-in info (or “credentials”). This information can be in the form of a user name and password, one-time password, certificate, or even a smart card if you are using a VPN for work.

If you want your computer to be automatically signed in to this VPN, enter your username and password. When you’re finished, select Save. If you leave these fields blank, you’ll be asked to enter your login information every time you want to connect to your VPN. Leaving your username and password blank for a work VPN is helpful to keep away anyone unauthorized to view your work data.

In the future, if you need to use additional settings, like changing proxy settings for the VPN connection, select the VPN Connection, and choose Advanced options. Here, you can change your VPN connection properties, including connection name, server address, type of login information, username and password. Advanced options also allows you to change the VPN proxy settings.

VPN Advanced options

Connect to a VPN

After you set up and save your VPN profile, you can now connect and browse the web using your VPN. Follow these steps to connect to your VPN.

  1. Select the Start,
  2. Select Settings, then Network & Internet, then VPN.
  3. Select the VPN connection you want to use, then select Connect.
  4. When or if prompted, enter your user name and password or other sign-in information.

If you want to check to see if you are connected to the VPN you just created a profile for, Select the Network icon on the far right of the taskbar, then check to see if your VPN connection indicates that it is indeed Connected (like the picture below).

There are many VPNs services out there, so pick the one that best suits your needs and budget. Personally, I find ExpressVPN to provide the best speed and protection at a reasonable price. Any suggestions on the best VPN service? Let us know in the comments.
